History
The Lascito Benfratello (Benfratello’s Bequest), formerly owned by the Department of Building Design and Construction, preserves the archive materials and library of Salvatore Benfratello (Palermo 1881-1953), an engineer and architect, as well as the chair of Technical Architecture at the Royal School of Application for Engineers of the University of Pisa (starting in 1920) and that of Palermo. The materials, donated at the beginning of the 1960s by his son Guglielmo to the Faculty of Engineering, consist of around thirty projects and as many series of various subjects for a total of just over four hundred drawings (mostly in pencil and ink, but also in charcoal and watercolour). In addition, several dozen architectural prints, notebooks and photographs of completed architecture are preserved, while the book collection consists of 550 volumes and 900 issues of architecture and applied arts periodicals belonging to 22 series.
