The monumental complex with the fourteenth-century Palazzo Chiaromonte and the annexed historical buildings preserves indelible traces of the history of Palermo.

An ancient crypt rediscovered by chance in 2005, with a magnificent treasure: a seventeenth-century altar decorated with majolica tiles and the tomb of the Mother Abbess of the sixteenth-century convent of Santa Maria la Grazia, better known as the convent of the Repentite, which housed prostitutes converted to monastic life.

This precious chapel, incorporated into the Convent of the Theatines, the first seat of the University of Palermo, preserves numerous sacred and decorative elements dating back to the 18th century, created by important artists including Giuseppe and Procopio Serpotta, brother and nephew of the more famous Giacomo. Since 2009 it has been reopened as a University Chapel.

The seventeenth-century convent of Sant'Antonino is a treasure chest that holds four centuries of religious and secular history. In the early twentieth century, the convent was transformed into a "subsistence barracks" and heavily modified to adapt to its new use. In the rooms that had once housed the friars, bread was produced for half a century for the military throughout Sicily.

The Fossa della Garofala is an historical garden which represents a still visible strip of the landscape of the Conca d'Oro, the large plain on which the city of Palermo and its surroundings extend. Its history provides traces of the many uses that have followed one another over the centuries and that have determined its current conformation.
