Collection of Structural Engineering

The collection includes approximately 200 optical-mechanical topographic and photogrammetric instruments, the oldest of which date back to the second half of the 19th century.

History

The Structural Engineering collection features several historical instruments used to study the mechanical behavior of materials, experimentally verify theoretical studies, and provide guidance for their application. These instruments also provide an important insight into the technological evolution of laboratory instruments since the final decades of the 19th century.

The collection features instruments and equipment dating from the late 19th century, when the "Construction Cabinet of the Royal School of Applications for Engineers" was established to support the teaching of Applied Mechanics for Construction, entrusted to Professor Giovanni Salemi Pace. It extends to the first decades after the war, and is currently undergoing further development, expansion, and installation.
