Il Pianeta delle Piante - Installazione multimediale permanente

opening 17 SETTEMBRE | ORE 19:00

Planet of Plants - Permanent Multimedia Installation

The Botanical Garden of the University of Palermo has been enriched with a new, extraordinary exhibition. On Wednesday 17 September, the Sala Tineo reopens its doors to the public with the inauguration of a permanent interactive and multimedia installation: “Il Pianeta delle Piante” (Planet of Plants).

Created by Odd Agency in collaboration with Unipa Heritage, the Museum System of the University of Palermo, the installation is an immersive and interactive experience that takes visitors on a fascinating journey, recounting the millennial history of plants and their fundamental relationship with humans.

Through immersive projections, audiovisual content and interactive devices, the journey unfolds from the origin of life on Earth to the crucial challenges of the contemporary climate crisis.

Plants become narrators, revealing their history: from the appearance of the first photosynthetic organisms to the birth of botanical gardens, from the insights of visionary scientists such as Theophrastus, Linnaeus, Von Humboldt and Darwin to the central role they play today in the survival of the planet.

The Sala Tineo, with its installation “Il Pianeta delle Piante” (Planet of Plants), is a space designed to engage visitors of all ages. Children, adults, families and curious minds of all ages can explore interactive timelines, consult digital herbariums and understand the vital function of plants in ecosystems.

The aim is to combine science, technology and storytelling to rediscover plants as authentic protagonists of life on our planet and raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity for the future.

Also on permanent display is the carré that Hermès-Paris has dedicated to the Botanical Garden of Palermo, together with an interactive installation that recounts its botanical contents.

The installation work was funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) as part of the project “INTERVENTIONS FOR THE RESTORATION AND RECOVERY OF THE HISTORICAL GARDEN OF THE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF PALERMO”, an initiative funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

The inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday 17 September, when visitors will have the opportunity to explore the installation and immerse themselves in this extraordinary journey of discovery of the plant world, to learn about the vital role of plants for the future of our planet.
