

Introduction
The Museum operates in the field of protection and enhancement of the historical industrial heritage, in collaboration with various public and private entities. Its collection consists of engines, mechanisms, scientific and educational equipment, ranging from 19th century steam engines up to modern hybrid automotive powertrain, turbojet engines, and two historic aircraft, a FIAT G.59 4B and F-104S Starfighter. For to the importance of its heritage and for the many activities of protection and enhancement of the historical industrial heritage, the Museum was the first in Italy to receive the prestigious international recognition Mechanical Engineering Heritage Collection from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. By means of its well-equipped laboratory, the Museum takes care of the restoration and maintenance of historical assets, following where possible a philological and conservative approach. The main objectives of the Museum are the protection, enhancement and public enjoyment of its heritage. To this end it carries out research and dissemination activities, through exhibitions, seminars, workshops and educational laboratories, promoting multiple cultural initiatives in partnership with other bodies and associations, as part of the development policy promoted by the University of Palermo.
History
Inaugurated in 2011 as a result of a wide restoration and exhibition project, the Museum houses an almost unique collection dating back to the establishment of the Royal School of Application for Engineers and Architects of the University of Palermo in 1866. Many of collection’s elements have been acquired and used over time in various sectors of research and teaching. Moreover, since the foundation of the museum, the collection has been significantly expanded through numerous acquisitions from various public bodies, companies and private donors. Nowadays the Museum displays a heritage of great value that describes the evolution of the internal combustion engines in every field of application.

The Museum can be visited upon reservation only:
- from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00
- on Saturday and Sunday the Museum can be visited in case of special events
- closed in August.

The Museum carries out all the restoration activities in its own workshop following the canons of philological restoration and, where possible, through a conservative approach.
