Caronia Roberti Zanca Fund

The Giuseppe Caronia Fund and the Antonio Zanca Fund collect documentary and bibliographic materials from the archives and libraries of Antonio Zanca (Palermo 1861-1958), Salvatore Caronia Roberti (Palermo 1887-1970) and Giuseppe Caronia (Palermo 1915 – Rome 1994).

History

The Giuseppe Caronia Fund and the Antonio Zanca Fund come from the Department of History and Design in Architecture. They collect documentary and bibliographic materials from the archives and libraries of Antonio Zanca (Palermo 1861-1958), Salvatore Caronia Roberti (Palermo 1887-1970) and Giuseppe Caronia (Palermo 1915 – Rome 1994). These are three architects and engineers from Palermo who played fundamental roles in the culture of design in Contemporary Italy. The Caronia Roberti Fund was donated in 1992 by Salvatore Caronia Roberti’s sons, Giuseppe and Vittorio. The Drawing Collection consists of 1687 graphic works of various sizes, collected in 193 series including pencil, ink, color and charcoal drawings, on various types of media. The Photographic Collection consists of 953 photographs gathered in 128 series. This collection includes plaster models of three family chapels. The Giuseppe Caronia Fund consists of archive material donated by the Caronia family in 1995. The fund consists of just over a thousand drawings and heliographic copies of various sizes, collected in 64 series. In addition to the endowment of a considerable Photographic Collection, the fund is accompanied by a significant part of Giuseppe Caronia's library. The Antonio Zanca Fund consists of archive material and the collection of volumes and pamphlets donated in 1997 by the Zanca family. It contains 2513 drawings, 13 notebooks, 194 folders (with calculations, correspondence and various reports) and some series of photographs, as well as printed texts.
