Strumenti di Psicotecnica

The collection of psychotechnics instruments, which you can visit at the Department of Psychological and Pedagogical Sciences, is part of the valuable archaeological, historical, artistic, and scientific heritage of the University of Palermo.
Many of these instruments originated from the psychology laboratory established by Gastone Canziani in the 1930s and from the ENPI (National Institute for Accident Prevention) Work Psychology Center. Giovanni Sprini considered these instruments a "treasure," and they were later recovered from the basements of building 15. Although Sprini's passing halted the initial inventory process, the work of cataloging and preservation has continued.
Today, approximately sixty instruments are on display. These pieces showcase the teaching and scientific methods used for professional selection, psychophysical measurement, and graphic recording. Examples include kymographs, tachistoscopes, and stereometers. The collection also features audio/video equipment and various psychological tests.
The exhibition of these instruments holds immense cultural and historical value. It offers a unique opportunity for students and enthusiasts to trace the history of the mind sciences in Sicily and, more specifically, in Palermo from the early 20th century onwards.
